According to the church inventory, the church was built in 1716 ‘with the money of Belozersk citizens’ and belonged to the Trinity Svyatogorsk Monastery. The central side-altar of the temple was consecrated in the name of the Holy Trinity, the lateral ones – in the name of the ‘Not-Made-By-Hands’ Image of the Savior and the Tikhvin icon of the Mother of God. The scholars discovered a church constitution printed in 1733. The inscription read: ‘From the eighteenth day of December 1733, let this holy book be at the city of Belo-ezer in the churches of God in the SvyatogOrsky Trinity Monastery, forever in the remembrance of priest Michael and the schemonk Dositheos Dosith IvAnovskikh and deacon John and other kinsmen of mine being the peccant hieromonach Joseph IvAnovsky the NovozErets’.
The monastery was located in the southern suburb of the city on a hill. In 1764 it was closed ‘by common agreement of Belozersk citizens’, and the Trinity Church became a cemetery church. Since 1840, the church was under the head of Jacob Nikitsky, the priest of the Annunciation Church, the church head was chosen from the ‘city community’. On the day of the Holy Spirit there were services at the temple, the parishioners walked in the cross procession to the temple from the city cathedral.
In the everyday use the temple was called ‘The Saviour on the hill’ as the side-altar was done in the name of the ‘Not-Made-By-Hands’ Image of the Savior. Same as many other temples in Belozersk in those years, Troitskaya church consisted of 3 parts: the temple itself, with the refectory and the bell tower adjacent to it. It differed in that the altar chapel -- the apse -- was significantly lower than the main building, and the apse sides of the refectory were semi-circular. The temple apse was covered by a high semi-domed roof, and the roof of the temple itself was in the form of a low four-sided dome. The roof of the refectory was constructed as a simple, two-pitched one.
In the second half of the 19th century, the building underwent significant changes: the windows of the refectory were cut out, the cornices were knocked down, the facades were plastered and painted white.
During the Soviet years the temple was closed. By the second half of the 20th century the upper tier of the temple and the bell tower were destroyed. A wide gap was made in the apse. The interior of the temple was destroyed. Over the years, the church building was used as a garage, kerosene shop, warehouse. Since during numerous alterations the metal ‘bonds’ - iron forged stripes, binding the building from the inside - were cut, the temple began to break down. In 1989, the northwestern corner with part of the vaults collapsed, and in 2000 other parts of the temple collapsed. The church is now in ruins. In 2016, a memorial cross was erected here.
