In the park next to the Burganov House, there is a sculptural composition “Ecology” that focuses on the relationship between humans and nature. The eponymous centerpiece is a large palm that extends upwards. An openwork golden butterfly is perched on the tips of the fingers. The butterfly symbolizes the beauty and fragility of the world around us. This artwork is about the ability to find beauty in mundane and ordinary things, to treasure and protect it.

Images of hands have always been present in artworks — from the time of prehistoric cave paintings to modern art. A hand has various meanings and is a universally understandable symbol, which makes it easy for viewers to perceive. In literature and visual arts, hands can take on completely new, vivid symbolic meanings. In the art of Alexander Burganov, the image of a hand occupies a central place. A large hand with a height of two floors symbolizes a creator in the broad sense of the word, from God to any individual (“Big Hand”). A hand touching a butterfly symbolizes the dialogue between humans and nature (“Ecology”). A hand stretched out from folds asks for alms and mercy (“Beggar”). Several gesturing hands on an anonymous silhouette represent the protest of the victims of the Gulag. In the composition “Alphabet”, each hand is assigned a letter.

Hands can speak, point, pray, and bless. Hands can be divine and human, eloquent and gentle, cruel and proud.
