The collection of the Urazovo Local History Museum contains the painting ‘Birches at the Oskol River’, which was painted by local artist Nikolay Ivanov.
Belgorod painter Nikolay Ivanov was born on December 10, 1926 in the Kursk region. In 1943 he went to the front, where he served as a gunner in a self-propelled artillery regiment. For Battle Merit he was awarded the Medal ‘For Courage’. In 1943, Ivanov was severely wounded in the leg and was demobilized.

In 1952 Nikolay Ivanov graduated from the Kursk Art and Graphic School. After training, he was sent as a drawing teacher to the Urazovo settlement of the Kursk region. For more than 30 years Ivanov taught children to paint. During this time he graduated from the graphic arts faculty of the Moscow Pedagogical Institute. From 1983 to 1990, Nikolay Ivanov taught in the art class of the Urazovo children’s art school. He worked in various techniques, including watercolor, etching, and oil. His favorite genres were landscapes and portraits.
