Saint Demetrios of Thessaloniki is a Christian martyr. He lived in the Roman Empire in the 3rd century AD and was a son of the proconsul. His parents were Crypto-Christians and their son was also baptized in the Christian faith. After the death of his father, Demetrios was appointed proconsul of the Thessalonica district and began to preach Christ actively and to eliminate pagan beliefs. It caused discontent of Emperor Galerius Maximian. By his order, Demetrios was imprisoned and put to death several days later. He was run through with spears by the soldiers.
