Varvara Grigoryevna Stoletova was the eldest daughter in the family. She was born in 1833. Following the traditions of her social circle, she was home-schooled. Under the influence of her elder brother Nikolai and younger brother Alexander, Varvara became proficient in German and French. Her parents ensured that she also learned to play the piano and dance. In 1860, Varvara married Andrei Pavlovich Filaretov, a Vladimir provincial architect and state councilor.
During his service as a provincial architect, Andrei Filaretov was responsible for the construction of several zemstvo buildings in Suzdal and Murom, as well as other structures. These included shopping halls in Stavrovo, Yuryev-Polsky, and Melenki. Additionally, he oversaw the construction of schools, including a real school in Murom, an urban school in Vyazniki, a school for girls in Kirzhach and a noble assembly building in Yuryev-Polsky. Under Filaretov’s direction, the building of the archive for the Vladimir District Court was also reconstructed. This building is now known as the archive building on Uritsky Street.
The Filaretov family resided on Troitskaya Street (now Podbelsky Street). They purchased a house “at Bolshaya Nizhegorodskaya Road” (now Bolshaya Nizhegorodskaya Street 25). Several generations of the Filaretov family lived there until the 1960s. Varvara and Andrei Filaretov had four children: Nikolai, Ekaterina, Andrei, and Maria.
Varvara Filaretova’s eldest son, Nikolai Andreyevich, graduated from the Law Faculty of Moscow University and was a candidate for judicial positions in the Moscow District Court. He worked at the Moscow Association of Lawyers and tried both civil and criminal cases. In 1919, Nikolai settled in Vladimir and worked as a legal advisor in a number of organizations, becoming a member of the Vladimir District Board of Public Defenders.
Andrei Andreyevich Filaretov, on the other hand, became a doctor and graduated from the Military Medical Academy in St. Petersburg. He served in the Baltic Fleet and in the medical department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. After 1917, he continued serving in the healthcare system as an epidemiologist and state sanitary inspector.
