Vladimir Petrovich Tyurin was born in 1957 in the village of Sukhorukovo near Kostroma. His interest in drawing sparked while he was in elementary school. In 1982 he graduated from the Art and Graphic Faculty of the Nekrasov Kostroma State Pedagogical Institute.
After that Vladimir Tyurin left for the Northern Fleet to work as an artist. Tyurin traveled extensively around the Kola Peninsula: he was fascinated by the nature of the Far North. Upon returning to Kostroma, the artist began to actively take part in exhibitions.
Since 2004, Vladimir Tyurin has been working on a project he called “Face”. The title accurately reflects the essence of the artist’s experiments with form and shape. He began studying this issue in many directions: face as portrait, face as type, face as mask, face as symbol, and, finally, face as metaphor.
For Vladimir Tyurin, “face” is a special category, and a kind of material through which he can can convey his emotional impressions and experiences associated with the perception of both an individual — be they a random passerby or acquaintance — and a certain group — be it a meeting of “white collar workers”, a group of teenagers or a diverse crowd.
