The majority of the museum’s collection is made up of works by representatives of different generations and periods of Kostroma’s artistic life since the 1960s. They are united by their freedom of creative self-expression, the search for their own expressive language, and investment in the issues of aesthetics.
Several artists developed their style within the framework of the official Union of Russian Artists and gained lifetime fame, received titles and awards. At the same time, until the mid 1980s, many viewers were denied the opportunity to see the evolution of many Kostroma artists due to the existence of ideological boundaries and a system of prohibitions. The museum also strives to introduce its visitors to those who spent years in creative isolation.
The exhibition consists of paintings, graphic works, and various art objects. Works created by Kostroma artists make it possible to significantly expand the understanding of the city’s artistic life.
Exhibits are marked with AR stickers for identification purposes.
