The museum’s exhibition displays replicas of the orders awarded to the 16th Guards Cavalry Division. Among the awards received by the division was the Order of Suvorov, 2d class. The order was conferred to the division by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR as of August 9, 1944 for the exemplary fulfillment of the command assignments in the battles with the German invaders, for the conquest of the city of Lublin and for the valor and courage shown during the battles.
The city of Lublin was liberated during the Lublin-Brest offensive, which lasted from July 18 to August 2, 1944. The 7th Guards Cavalry Corps (including the 16th Guards Cavalry Division) participated in the Lublin-Brest offensive on the left wing of the 1st Belorussian Front, whose task was to make the main attack.
The idea of the offensive was to bypass the Brest fortified area and defeat the enemy’s Lublin and Brest groupings with troops from the north and south. The Lublin-Brest offensive ended with the reaching of the troops of the 1st Belorussian Front to the Vistula and the capture of bridgeheads on its western bank.
