St. John the Baptist is the precursor of Jesus Christ, the greatest Christian saint. The Christians called him ‘The End of the Prophets’ because he didn’t only foretell Messiah, but also saw his prophecy come true — as he saw the Incarnation of God.
The icon was restored by O.A. Shcherbakov and A.A. Kazmin in the All-Union Research Institute for Restoration in 1974 and 1979.
