Archangel Gabriel is one of seven archangels sent by God to bring good news to people. He appeared to Zechariah and the Virgin foretelling the birth of John the Baptist and Jesus Christ. Archangel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary and revealed to her the date of her departure into eternal life.
The icon was restored by Y.S. Finogenova in the All-Union Research Institute for Restoration in 1979.
