Leontius, Bishop of Rostov ad Suzdal, is considered to be the first teacher of Christianity in the North-East of Russia and is among the most venerated Russian saints. He was probably the bishop of Rostov in the second half of the 11th century.
The icon was restored by G.V. Zharenkov, A.A. Kozmin and A.V. Neretin in the All-Union Research Institute for Restoration in 1974 and 1980.
