The twelve-year old Christ sitting in the Temple of Jerusalem is depicted in the centre of the composition. He is holding a rolled scroll in his right hand. Christ is surrounded by the elders. The architectural background of the composition symbolizes the interior of the Temple of Jerusalem.
The name of the feast ‘Mid-Pentecost’ is taken from the Gospel. On this day, the church glorifies the special teaching about the living water that means the holy teachings of Christ and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The Lesser Blessing of Waters takes place in the churches, and sometimes at the wells and in the rivers on this day.
The icon was restored by G.Z. Bykova in the All-Union Research Institute for Restoration in 1968.
