The miter is a ceremonial headdress of bishops. It is a tall, solid, round hat with rich decorations and images of icons. Expensive fabrics, such as velvet or brocade, are used for the base and then decorated with pearls, precious stones, embroidery and engraved metal plates. When putting on a miter, a bishop would read a special prayer.
