The artist was born in the Ozeryane village of the Kuybyshev district in Amur Oblast. In 1954, he graduated from an art and graphics school in Birobidzhan with honors. In 1962, he came to Komsomolsk-on-Amur.
The 1960s was the era of newly emerging art trends, which coincided with Lanovenko’s evolution as an artist. His works are characterized by expressiveness, dynamics, color contrasts and precise graphic forms. They feature the harmonious combination of beautiful fantasy and the world’s reality.
In his works, Lanovenko strove to reflect both the splendor of his hometown nature and the rhythm of modern life. He drew inspiration from everywhere: he visited geological explorations on Badzhal, studied the life of fishermen of the Kamchatka and Amur regions, and communicated with the builders of the Baikal-Amur Mainline and the Okha-Komsomolsk Gas Pipeline.
