Oleg Romantsev is the most decorated football coach in the history of Russian football. He led Spartak Moscow to eight national titles, an achievement few can match. However, this brilliant career was accidental. In 1983 Romantsev suffered a severe ankle joint injury and had to end his playing career at the age of 29. Until then his career was quite rather successful, he even played for the Soviet national team. In 1980, the Soviet team took the bronze at the Moscow Olympics under Konstantin Beskov, winning 8-0 against Cuba. Romantsev scored a goal during a group-stage match against Cuba.
