A 3-string 24-fret stringed instrument. The body is made of maple, the soundboard is made of fir. The fingerboard is encrusted with mother-of pearl.
This balalaika is one of the most valuable instruments of the Museum’s collection. It was made by an outstanding balalaika maker Semyon Nalimov and was played by musicians of Andreyev’s Great Russian Orchestra. Nalimov considered to be a 'Russian Stradivari', his instruments received recognition on The World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 and 1902. Nalimov made over 250 instruments, and about 70 of them – for Andreyev’s Orchestra.
