Saint Andrew the Apostle was one of the original twelve Apostles, disciples of Jesus Christ; according to the Gospel of John, he was the first to be called by Jesus Christ to be an apostle and therefore he is referred to in the Orthodox tradition as the First-Called.
The icon was restored by Y.A. Ruzavin, Y.N. Neretina and A.V. Neretin in the All-Union Research Institute for Restoration in 1975, 1979, 1980, 1982.
