The Ugut Museum of Local History was opened on June 23, 1979. The founder of the museum, Pyotr Semyonovich Bakhlykov, became interested in local history in the late 1960s — early 1970s. He was one of the first people in the Surgut district, who tried to collect and preserve the disappearing elements of Khanty culture. His numerous expeditions and friendly trips to yurts allowed him to amass a rich collection of household items and musical instruments of the Yugan River Khanty.
At the moment, the Ugut Museum of Local History has the most comprehensive collection of household items of the Yugan group of the Eastern Khanty.
A small collection of archeological finds is also noteworthy. It is represented by metal artifacts of the 14th–17th centuries and ceramics of the 4th–13th centuries AD.
In recent years, the historical and household collection has been replenished with new exhibits. They include household items of the Russian old-timer and Soviet population.
The museum’s collection has 7,158 exhibits.
