The idea to create a museum in the young city of Seversk appeared in the early 1980s. The first collections were formed from works of art, which were received from the funds of the Republican Center for Art Exhibitions and the Promotion of Fine Arts ‘Rosizopropaganda’. Later local historians donated various household items to the museum.
The Exhibition Hall-Museum of Seversk was opened on March 25, 1988. The first exhibitions were: ‘Traditional culture of the peoples of the East’, ‘The Artists from Tomsk’, ‘The Children’s art’.
The oldest exhibits date back to the 5th and 4th millennium BC. The museum collections also feature unique items from the Bronze and Iron Ages, the Middle Ages, household items from Russian villages, items related to the city’s construction period and its contemporary history.
