“The Demidovs in Russian and European History” exhibition paints a comprehensive picture of the achievements of the Demidov family in the social, cultural and political life of not only Russia, but other countries as well. The Demidovs were mining entrepreneurs, known for their activities in the exploration of ore deposits and the construction of factories. The representatives of this glorious family included successful businessmen, diplomats, lawyers, high-ranking military personnel, naturalists, writers, musicians, travelers, collectors and, finally, patrons of the arts and generous benefactors.
The main part of the exhibition is devoted to the history of metalworking and gunsmithing in Tula as exemplified by authentic items of early Tula weapons production of the 16th–18th centuries. One can also see unique items from the archaeological excavations of the Demidov family tomb — crosses and women’s jewelry made of gold, silver and bronze in the 18th century.
